It is widely planted in Italy and thrives in warmer climates like California’s Sierra Foothills.

Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is the world's most popular full-bodied red wine grape, originating from a 17th-century cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in Bordeaux, France. It is renowned for its high tannin content, deep color, and, typically, blackcurrant, blackberry, and cedar flavors, with strong aging potential.

Meritage

Meritage (pronounced like "heritage", not "meri-TAZH") is a term used to describe high-quality, Bordeaux-style blended wines produced primarily in the United States. It is a portmanteau of the words merit and heritage.
The Blend: Must be a blend of two or more of the "noble" Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, St. Macaire, Gros Verdot, or Carmenère.
The Ratio: No single variety can make up more than 90% of the blend.

Merlot

Merlot is a popular, dry red wine known for its soft, velvety texture, medium-to-full body, and approachable, fruit-forward profile. Featuring prominent flavors of plum, black cherry, and chocolate, it is often less tannic than Cabernet Sauvignon. It thrives in varied climates, ranging from herbaceous, cool-climate styles to jammy, oak-aged, warm-climate bottles.

Monastrell

Monastrell (also known as Mourvèdre in France or Mataro in Australia/California) is a heat-loving, thick-skinned red grape primarily grown in southeastern Spain (Jumilla, Yecla). It produces dark, bold, full-bodied, and tannic wines with intense black fruit, chocolate, tobacco, and rustic earth flavors.

Petit Verdot

Petit Verdot is a dark, thick-skinned, late-ripening red grape, historically used in small percentages in Bordeaux blends to add tannin, color, and structure. It is now frequently produced as a robust, full-bodied varietal wine, especially in California, Australia, and Virginia, offering intense flavors of violet, blackberry, black cherry, and sage.

Petite Sirah

Petite Sirah is a bold, deeply colored, and highly tannic red wine made from the French Durif grape (a cross of Syrah and Peloursin). These full-bodied wines are ideal for aging and pair perfectly with grilled, savory meats.
